Ordovician Epoch (485–443 million years ago)
Following the Cambrian, the Ordovician saw the rise of marine biodiversity to new heights. Seas were dominated by brachiopods, bryozoans, and the enigmatic nautiloids. This epoch also witnessed the first primitive plants colonizing the land, paving the way for future terrestrial ecosystems.
